Flights from Manchester to Tel Aviv

The leading low-cost airline Jet2.com has announced that its Manchester-based service is going to increase flights to Tel Aviv to three times per week with an additional Tuesday flight. The new service, which is already in sale now, will be in operation from 12th July to 6th September 2011 and will give passengers more choice and flexibility when they travel.

The additional service to the already existing Monday and Thursday flights comes due to strong customer demand on the route, which started in May last year and got great success. The overwhelming demand for the service is also the reason Jet2.com to double the frequency of its flights to Tel Aviv during the winter. The increased frequency will make more than 4,000 extra seats available for travelers flying between Manchester and Tel Aviv and the prices for the popular destination will start from just £99.99 one way including taxes.
The key to this success is the friendly flight times, which ensure that passengers get the most out of their trip, a huge 22kg bag allowance, allocated seating on all flights and a generous loyalty scheme to thank regular customers, said from the airline.
The announcement was welcomed by Manchester Airport's new Managing Director Andrew Harrison, who said the development would not only offer both business and leisure passengers more opportunities of visiting a major city in Israel, but would also strengthen Jet2.com’s position further at Manchester.

United Airlines is going to buy Continental Airlines Inc for $3.2 billion, creating the world’s leading carrier.

United Airlines is going to buy Continental Airlines Inc for $3.2 billion, creating the world’s leading carrier. The new airline will be called United Airlines and would be based in Chicago. It will have over $29 billion in annual revenue and the deal is expected to save more than $1 billion a year. The merger brings together two of the world's premier airlines, creating a combined company well positioned to succeed in an increasingly competitive global and domestic aviation industry. The new carrier is considered to be a world-class and truly global airline with an unparalleled network serving communities worldwide with outstanding customer service.

United Airlines has 46,000 employees and a mainline fleet of 333 planes made by Airbus and Boeing Co. It has hubs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago and Washington, D.C. and has a strong presence on Asia-Pacific routes, Europe and Latin America. Continental has about 41,000 employees and hubs in Newark, New Jersey, Houston and Cleveland. The new company will have a combined work force of nearly 90,000 employees and a combined fleet of 693 planes. It will continue to serve all the communities each carrier currently serves and will fly 144 million passengers a year to 370 destinations in 59 countries worldwide.

It is believed that the combined company will have more staying power than each of them individually. Experts have said consolidation would lend much-needed stability to the industry, which has been dogged by low-fare competition, terror concerns, volatile fuel prices and overcapacity.

The current world's largest airline is Delta Air Lines which was formed by a merger in 2008 between Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines.

British Airways and Spanish carrier Iberia have signed an agreement to merge and create one of the world's biggest airline groups.

The two carriers have been working together since 1999 when was the first phase of Iberia's privatisation by the Spanish government. In July 2008, both BA and Iberia said they were holding talks on a possible merger, with both brands to be retained as part of a combined group. The most anticipated merger in airline history was provisionally agreed in November last year and it is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The two companies announced that the agreement would benefit shareholders, employees and customers. The signature of the merger would also secure the future of the two unprofitable carriers and it is expected to save the airlines 400m euros ($533m; £350m) a year.

The new company will be called International Airlines Group, but the BA and Iberia brands will continue to operate as normal. The intention is to imitate the model of Air France-KLM, allowing both Britain and Spain to continue having a national carrier. The company will have its headquarters in London and it is expected to become Europe's third largest airline by revenue. In total the group will operate 408 aircraft and carry more than 58 million passengers a year.

Now British Airways and Iberia face severe competition in domestic and European markets, both from budget airlines and - in Iberia's case - from high-speed train services. However, the Spanish carrier remains unrivalled in its services to Latin America, a region where BA has cut back flights in recent years.

Budget airline easyJet is going to start flights from Manchester to Helsinki. The new flight route departs on 28 March 2010 and gives an excellent opportunity for a city break to the Finnish capital.

Situated on the shores of Baltic Sea, Helsinki is a modern and dynamic city. Located some 400 kilometers east of Stockholm, Sweden and 300 kilometers west of St. Petersburg, Russia, Helsinki is a crossroad of Eastern and Western Culture. In 2000, while celebrating its 450th anniversary, Helsinki was an official European City of Culture and recently, it was voted to be the third World Design Capital for 2012.

Helsinki's Design District is a creative hub in the centre of the city spreading over 25 streets and featuring over 170 points of design interest from fashion boutiques such as the well known Marimekko to heavyweight furniture and design emporiums including Artek and national glass designer Iittala.

Besides design, Helsinki offers plenty of museums, churches and cultural events. Here you can see the world's largest historical maritime fortresses – Suomenlinna, built on six islands in the 1700's to protect the Eastern part of the empire against Russian attack.

You can also get a sightseeing cruise and enjoy Helsinki’s beautiful archipelago or you can take a walk in some of the many parks in the city and admire different historical styles and sights.

Another thing in Helsinki that you should not miss is a visit to the sauna - the best way to experience local everyday life and Finnish traditional customs.

Qantas will remove all First Class Seats on B 747-400 fleet and Orders for new A 380 will also have no First Class anymore.

Qantas Airlines will replace its first class cabin on Boeing 747-400 aircrafts by new business class flatbed seats which are already in use on the existing Airbus A 380 models.

On the 12 A380´s already in use or ordered until 2012 Qantas will retain the first class but will reduce the number of seats in its business cabin, and increase the premium economy and economy offering. The remaining 8 A380s due to be delivered from 2012 will feature a three-class cabin without first class.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce explained the decision as follows:

“Maintaining a First offering on flagship routes is essential for Qantas as a premium airline. It is vital that we align this offering with forecast demand which is expected to be relatively slow compared to business, premium economy and economy.

“Our 14 A380 First suites will be offered on twelve aircraft and on daily services from Sydney and Melbourne to London via Singapore and Los Angeles.

The upgrade and reconfiguration programme will commence at the end of 2011 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2013.
